What We Can Help With

The Sustainability Hub provides strategic support across all facets of the university, and ensures coordinated, coherent, measured change in priority areas in a manner that engages members of the community and key leaders across institutional units on both campuses.

The Climate Emergency Response team is responsible for convening, coordinating, and tracking the implementation of the CETF strategic priorities and recommendations.

Catalyze

We create welcoming spaces to catalyze interdisciplinary and cross-cultural conversations for transformative change, and provide incentives to increase climate education at UBC through grants, fellowships, guest lecturers, and co-curricular programs for graduate and undergraduate students. The Sustainability Hub provides strategic support for UBC’s climate action leaders to advance collective impact towards climate justice.

Build Awareness

We build awareness of climate justice and UBC’s commitment to action, and offer resources and tools to mobilize climate action. We work to increase the UBC community’s awareness of the disproportionate impacts of the climate crisis on IBPOC communities and communities on the frontline of the climate crisis.

Amplify

We work to amplify the voices, stories, and knowledge of Indigenous peoples and communities made most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, and engage IBPOC campus and community partners in dialogue to address the intersections of the climate crisis and justice.

  • Indigenous Rights and Climate Justice Circle
  • Developing a partnership with Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation, an Arctic Indigenous Nation that declared a climate emergency prior to UBC and is taking climate action leadership
  • Homegrown Climate Justice project

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning

We monitor, evaluate, learn, and report on UBC’s climate emergency response to assess its progress and impact in advancing climate justice.

  • Developing and leading mapping of CETF recommendations against existing strategic plans, work structures, and priorities
  • Monitoring, evaluating, and learning framework [in development], including maintaining an accurate repository of projects, programming, and initiatives taking place on campus
